    Note 1: Most of the family had the surname of "Wilburn" up until the civil war. After the civil war the surname was changed to "Wilborn" then "Willborn." We don't know why.

    Note 2: John L. Wilburn sells 4 lots (20 acres)in Oakville to his brother Richard Brown Wilburn for $300. on Dec 23, 1857. Reference Deed Records, Vol-B, Pages 96 & 97, Live Oak County, TX.

    Note 3: John L. Wilborn married Frances C. Cole on 3/25/1855 in DeWitt County, TX. Reference marriage license # 180. Page #10, Book A & B.

    Note 4. John L. Wilborn request to be appointed administrator of his fathers'(Richard Wilburn) estate. The court required that John enter into Bond and approved security in the sum of $50,000. This request was dated July 26, 1857 and can be located in file # 105 DeWitt County, TX.

    Note 5: John L. "Dub" Willborn served two four year terms as Precinct #1 Commissioner, Live Oak County, TX.

    Note 6: John L Wilborn's family (3 dependents) was on the list of 496 indigent people from DeWitt County, TX who were entitled to relief under an act of 12/15/1863 for the support of soldiers' families. It was signed by J.T. Kilgore, Chief Justice, DeWitt County, TX on 2/22/1864. (John sent his family back to DeWitt County to live with relatives while he was away during the civil war). Reference Crossroads of South Texas, Volume 14, No. 4, Fall of 1994.

    Note 7: John L. Wilborn's half-brother, Thomas Wilburn, was the Live Oak County Commissioner in 1858.
