Hello, My name is Royce Fernandez. My father is Roy Wilborn Fernandez. My father's mother, Mary Wilborn Fernadez was the daughter of Max Wilborn. I took an interest in learning more about the Wilburn, Willborn, Wilborn family tree, when my dad showed me the family history manuscipt (you know, the book with R.B. Wilburn on the cover). While I was reading and observing the stories and pictures, I remembered an incident when I was about 12, when me and my grandmother were looking through pictures of the family that she collected over the years. Within those pictures, I notice several old black and white photos of American Indians. One in particular I'd remembered, had two Indian men dressed in Indian cloths, along side one Anglo-looking man dressed in a military-type uniform. I remembered asking her who they were and if they were related to us? She said that they were relatives of Richard B. Wilburn's mother. I always remembered this incident because I was very much fascinated with the Indian culture and life-style as a kid and I felt that I was related to Indian heritage in some way. Looking back at the manuscript, Richard B. Wilborn's mother was named Permelia. However, grandmother called her an "Indian name", but I can't remember the name. The manuscript also said that she was part Cherokee or Choctaw. However, Grandmother said that these people were full-blooded Arapaho Indians. Later that day, she showed me an heirloom that was passed down from Permelia's Indian side of the family. It was a necklace that was mediam size with small, light-blue stone designs within it. That was the first and last time I got to see those pictures and that necklace. So, I'm right now confused about the information my grandmother told and presented to me about Richard B. Wilburn's mother's side of the family. My grandmother died in 1992 and I have no idea who has those pictures and necklace. My email-address is catroy@stin.net. Thank You. (end)

COMMENTS: A special thanks is conveyed to Royce Fernandez for taking the time to convey this family informtion to us. "Oral" family history conveyed to family members is very important because it allows us to piece the family hsitory together, like a big jig-saw puzzle. For those of you who have other family history information passed on down to you by your parents, grandparents, etc please let us know. It don't have to be exciting, or earth shaking information. Most of the information we receive is rather mundane, however, it is very important as long as it is factual. If you do have information you would like to share with us please let us know.
