1. John & Martha Cheatham lived in Richmond, VA until they had 2 children. Went to Texas with Wagon Train. Wolves were so bad that they would try to get into the house.
2. Went by boat to Vicksburg, then by wagon to Anding Place. Went to New Orleans and bought slaves from Mr. Rodice and brought them back to the farm.
3. John did carpenter work with brother Matt. They built the Terrell House.
4. Yankees came by home and Grandma Martha fed them until they used all from the potato pump, milk in derricks, hen house -- they ate and drank everything.
5. One soldier was killed at Concord and burried on Cheatham place. No one knew his name -- he was a confederate soldier.
6. Martha was a Wilburn. Minter City was named after her mother's father. Martha's father was Richard Willbourn and he was hairlipped. The Minter family disowned her. In her old age, Martha had nose bleeds when working in the garden -- high blood pressure most likely.
7. Yankee Commanding Officer thanked her (Martha) for her kindness and would not allow her home to be burned as many were. She replied she only hoped that her husband and son (John Richard) were being treated as well.
8. In civil war battles at Concord, MS., own men were shot at because of color of their uniforms.
9. Her children were: (1) John Richard. (2) Pet Wallace and her husband taught school. (3) Andrew farmed. (4) Earnest buried in Concord, MS., two sons in Okla. (5) Joe (baby). (6) Carrie (Bain) farmed in Delta. (7) Mittie Russell (no children). (8) Lilla Barr died when 21. Son will lived (1864-1865). (9) Rhoda Kelly, sons Homer, Sims & Ida Manor (Ida's twin (Mae) died as baby). (10) Tommy Boy bled to death at 15. Making bricks and stayed too long in water. C ould not stop bleeding. "Best help" Grandma (Martha) had. Grandman never could quite stop greeving over Tom. (11) Martha Johnson. (12) Mary Jones (Tom) - large family, son Charlie (Tom) Thomas Cheatham killed father (Tom) Charles C. a alcoholic. Charlie never married. Mary and Tom (Charles C.) are buried in the Cheatham Cemetery. She died in McComb, MS.
10. John Richard Cheatham pulled trigger of gun to shoot yankee soldier, and rein on mules bridle prevented it from shooting (caught in gun's hammer).

As I mentioned, Thomas Cheatham Jones, son of Charles C. and Mary Jones is buried in Belzoni, Humpreys Co., MS city cemetery. Also, there is no tombstone in the Cheatham/Manor Cemetery for Mary.
Charles C. Jones father was John Belton Jones from SC. Charles C. was born in Neshoba Co., MS. Their is a Jones Family Cemetery in the Sandtown Community of Neshoba Co. Outside of Philidelphia, MS.
I live 1/2 mile for the Cheatham/Manor cemetery and this is my family also. Charles and Mary was my g-grandparents. Decendant of Lydia Jones Manor.
Do you have any information in your notes regarding the death of Lydia Jones Manor wife of Ernest Sanders Manor?
