John Archer Cheatham's Obituary

(both obituaries were copied exactly as written)
Mississippi Sentenial, Yazoo City, MS. July 9, 1885
On the 4th inst., at his home near Dover, John A. Cheatham, in his 71st year. He was a native of Chestfield County, Virginia, but a resident of this county for the last 45 years. A most excellent man, good citizen, just and true in all the relations of life. In his own household a pattern and exemplar to his family his loss is irreparable, but they should be comforted with the assurance that his exemplary life prepared him for a better world. The large concourse of neighbors and friends who attended his funeral Sunday, gave evidence of their esteem and regard at lie: was long a member of Concord Baptist Church. After solemn services by the Pastor the service at the grave were most impressively performed by the Masonic Fraternity of Dover Lodge, of which he was an examplary member.

Herold, Yazoo City, MS., July 10, 1885
On Saturday last, at his home near Dover, John A. Cheatham, age 70 years. Throughout the entire section of country where he is best known an universal sentiment of regret prevails at the loss of an honest, upright man. Mr. Cheatham was a member of the Baptist Church and also of the Masonic Fraternity. In all relations of life as husband and father, citizen and friend, he lived an examplary life and leaves behind him the priceless heritage of a good man.

I just wanted to let you all know that the Wilburn's Family Burial is actually in Benton, MS., the name is Captain Simmons Cemetary - its actually hidden its been there for a long long time though. If you live in MS or plan on visiting these are the directions US49 to Hwy 16 (or 55S to Yazoo Exit drive 15 miles) the turn is after a gas station on hwy16..looks like a residential street and it is - but the cemetary was there first.

my grandfather was Posey Wilburn.

Good Luck!!
